Here are the answers to some of the most common questions about light therapy and healing laser self-care, from light-users just like you and our medical experts.

Light Therapy

What is light therapy? What does it do?

Low-level light therapy, or LLLT, increases circulation to reduce pain. It may sound simple, but the act of increasing your circulation supports your innate healing processes. Scientific effects of increased circulation include:

  • Cell stimulation that leads to pain relief and tissue healing
  • Improved muscle performance and mental clarity
  • Decreased swelling from injuries
  • Detoxifying effects

What is the difference between red, blue and infrared light?

Every colored light has a different wavelength. Just as our cells know how to use different wavelengths from the sun our cells are built to absorb these 3 colors and use them each for different benefits. Polychromatic light therapy, or multi-colored light therapy, triggers cellular function to promote the body’s innate healing ability.

Blue light therapy: Contains antimicrobial properties, making it useful for skin care and wound healing.

Red light therapy: Triggers an increase in circulation.

Infrared light therapy: Reaches deeper tissues like muscle, tendons and ligaments.

These three lights combined create the InLight Medical laser pain relief system.

What is ‘polychromatic’ light therapy?

Polychromatic light therapy means that more than one light wavelength, or color, is used simultaneously. In Light Wellness Systems™ uses at least least two different light wavelengths in every pad.

What does light therapy do to the body?

Low-level light therapy increases circulation to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes to reduce pain. You can watch a short animated video here that explains how LED light therapy affects the body.

Why are there only three wavelengths used?

Research that has been done on light therapy has shown specific benefits with red light therapy, blue light therapy and infrared light therapy.


Is 7 the strongest setting?

The settings on InLight laser therapy devices are not stronger or weaker. They deliver pulses of red, blue and infrared light at different speeds, because studies suggest that different people and tissues respond to light speeds differently. The InLight Medical light therapy devices offer 15 different pulse rate settings.

Why are there different pad shapes?

Over the years, we’ve received customer feedback on the comfort of our wearable pads. That’s why we’ve created different pads to fit different areas of the body most comfortably. For example, we off the Boot for peripheral neuropathy in the feet, and the Painbuster for large areas.

Why are some of the lights on InLight Medical devices dark?

The “dark” rows on InLight healing lasers are the rows of infrared diodes. Infrared wavelengths are just outside of the human visible color spectrum.

Are the pads safe to use on animals?

We have received stories and photos of customers using the devices on animals. LED light therapy has been shown to be effective for equine pain therapy and for healing injuries in sport horses.

Do I have to use a specific pad on a specific part of my body?

While some pads are designed to fit certain parts of the body better than others, any LED light therapy pad can be used on any part of the body.

What are the difference between each program setting?

Settings 1-7 increase in frequency in the rate of pulsing in each LED, while programs A, B, and C are cumulative programs of each frequency.

How long should I use my light pads?

The InLight Medical Systems standard protocol for treatment is twice a day for 20 minutes per session as follows:

Allow the unit to operate in automated mode for 20 minutes or select a single setting and treat for 20 minutes.

Additional sessions may speed up results. Do not apply to an area for more than 20 minutes in a 5-hour period. Do not exceed 60 minutes of application to an area in a 24-hour period.

What is the difference between the MICRO controller and the 1/PORT controller?

The MICRO controller and 1/PORT controller both utilize the convenient, mobility-friendly MICRO controller housing case, but the 1/PORT is limited to only 1 port while the MICRO can have up to 2 ports.

How do I use the pads?

It is as simple as placing the pads light side-down against the skin of the target area, turning the controller on, and waiting until the session has ended.

How do I clean the pads?

You can use a disinfectant wipe to clean the LEDs and neoprene of the pad, or you can place the pad into a clear plastic bag and then apply it to the skin to minimize cleaning. Do not soak or submerge the pad. If you would like to clean the pad with a liquid cleanser, first spray the cleanser onto a paper towel and then use the paper towel to wipe down the pad.

I have a 6/PORT controller. What does the “MUTE” button do?

The MUTE button enables you to chose between having a silent timer countdown or have a beeping to notify you of timer completion during sessions.

My device needs repair, is it under warranty?

What do I need to send in for a warranty/repair order?

We ask that you send your entire system in when doing a repair order so that we may diagnose the entire system for causes to your issue. Your shipment should include the pad(s), controller(s), and the power supply provided with each system.

What is the return policy?
